Golden thread breathe is medicine for any mom. It works with calming your nervous system and honing in to your breathe by visualising a golden thread as you exhale it out through parted lips.

Where did it originate?

Uma Dinsmore-Tuli’s book Mother’s Breath first spoke about this breathing technique.

A calmer mom generally means a calmer kid. Finding ways to breathe better in pregnancy can create a contentment within.

What does this breathe help?

This breathe technique is a powerhouse tool for motherhood. It’s an awesome breathing exercise for pregnancy yoga, labour, birthing and beyond.

It also supports post traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, mental health booster by igniting the parasympathetic nervous system.

This is due to prolonging the exhale to inhale ratio which inadvertently works at calming your energy system effectively.

How to do?

  • Come into you by closing your eyes and begin tuning into your breathe
  • Once comfortable and wiggles and fidgets are out
  • Inhale through nose for 3-5 seconds
  • Exhale through parted lips for 5-7
  • Note the exhale is 2 seconds longer than your inhale
  • Don’t force/push the breathe, allow it to naturally release
  • Imagine your exhale as a golden thread
  • Repeat 5-10 times with your breathe
  • Notice what you feel
