Whats right for you? Pro’s and con’s of using a Moby wrap review

Is a Moby wrap beneficial as a mum? If yes why? In this Moby wrap review I discuss the pro’s and con’s of a Moby wrap and a useful video of how to use it properly? With a cautious section showing how not to use it.

What is a Moby wrap?

A Moby wrap is a piece of long fabric which is tied over the shoulders and around the torso, to create a kangaroo style pouch for your baby.

There are many kinds of ties to try once your baby is past the newborn stage. Position of your baby can be front, side or back.

Moby wrap classic Vs Moby wrap evolution

The Moby Evolution is super lightweight and snug with a blended fabric making it feel more luxurious and ideal for hotter climates. Whereas the Moby wrap classic is cheaper and is more suited for colder weather.

I personally love the Moby wrap classic.

Why a Moby wrap?

A moby wrap has so many pro’s to it and i touched upon the pro’s and cons of using a carrier Vs a stroller here and my thought process way back on what do i need a baby carrier or stroller

What works for one doesn’t necessarily mean it works for another.

Below I have listed the pro’s and cons of using a wrap.

Pro’s of moby wrap

When a baby is newborn, the sound of your heartbeat, the close contact, is so soothing and healthy for both baby and mother.

  12. Affordable
  13. Variety of options
  14. Unisex
  15. One size fits all
  16. Great for Scottish winters
  17. Can be used from birth.
  18. No buttons or toggles that can dig in and irritate your body.

The con’s of using a moby wrap

The con’s are;

  1. Can feel heavy if used a long time
  2. Become sweaty and hot
  3. Having to retie the knot
  4. Baby can fall out if not tied properly
  5. Baby can suffocate 0-4 months. Really important to learn how to use it before putting baby in.
  6. No storage pockets
  7. Can be tricky if dexterity isn’t strong

How long is it used for?

The Moby wrap can be used from birth up to 18 months. Babies weight 8lbs up to 33lbs.

I have known some parents to continue using the Moby wrap, til two years. I personally used it for the first year and found it super handy, but after that I was ready for the next baby carrier.

How to use the wrap

How not to use the Moby wrap

⚠️ Make sure you’ve practiced using it before putting baby in. Check out this super helpful video for instruction ease

This picture on the right shows my baby slipping inside the Moby wrap. This should not be happening.

The reason my baby is slipping is because i’d not used the pockets, as this super helpful video above shows. I’d got the tying ok, but by not using the pockets it creates a big hole and baby can move lots, which loosens the wrap.

It is supposed to be a snug soothing experience and as you can see, of my first attempt out after giving birth, it definitely wasn’t.

But its like life the more you practice, the better and more confident you can become.

Heres how your babies supposed to look;
